Angel - The sweetest introduction to any album I've heard. Matt Nathanson opens 'Between These Fireworks' with this short narrative about connecting with a past love and the pain of being so close to a past love but eternally out of reach. Fish Story - A lament to losing someone that at one time in life was so very close and now years have gone by and lives have changed. The analogy is a fish who has grown into a human and looks back into the ocean wishing he could once again talk to his friend. [

Slipped Away -
Andrew Wyeth is an American Painter best known for his painting 'Christina's World' (pictured above). The song is written from an old man's perspective who looks at a poem he wrote to a girl that he was enamored with in his youth ... he sees a painting (perhaps Christina's World) and sees a back turned to him, just as he had always felt the woman of his musing had been. It's not meant as a tribute to Christina's World in any regard, but much of the imagery was inspired by the painting and era of the painting. [
