Tomorrow Washed Ashore
Today, I stood by the ocean
And watched as the crashing waves
Brought the pieces of a fisherman's boat
Slowly to the shore.

It became more and more apparent
These were in fact fragile pieces
-- Something -- Once been -- No longer
I wept for loss -- unspoken.

Today, I stood by the ocean
And watched as the crashing waves
Brought several lengths of tangled seaweed
Slowly to the shore.

It became more and more apparent
These were in fact manacles
-- Could entagle -- Smimmer's legs -- Pull under
I wept for loss - unimagined.

Today, I wade into the ocean
And let go as crashing waves
Brought the observer of sleeping tides
Slowly to the shore.

It became more and more apparent
These were in fact futures
-- Would arrive -- at the shore -- For me
I wept for loss - unwanted.

Today, I wade into tomorrow.
And let go as the crashing waves
Bring the day in the horizon
Slowly to the shore.

Today I sit and watch the tides
Today I reside in the future
I can't ignore - it's knocking at my door, Today.
Tomorrow, I watch the shore
