Faith in Question
In a little town down near Mexico,
A boy had lived and a boy would grow,
Into something of a legend - a religious sort,
Inspired by a missionary's handiwork.

One night he had come to him,
And said: "brother I've got a light to share."
And into the night he sold him the words
Between the lines that weren't written there.

That night he sold him a miracle,
A life of riches and prosperity,
He said, "cast off the sinners who can never see,
Because He once said you'd be better than me."

He once had a woman in his life,
They'd lived together, but she wasn't his wife,
He said: "I'm sorry but we're living in sin,
And if you had faith like mine then you'd begin - To see,

That love and loss are only a state of mind,
Just like my health - and healing the blind,
And if you're faith was strong, I'd marry you some day,"
And as he spoke she just walked away

When he tried to sell her a miracle.
She looked him square in the eye.
She said, "I'm not ready and I don't understand,
How you could buy into this lie."

So she rejected the miracle
And the man fell deep into despair,
She said: "he had changed into a pharisee,
Making connections and predictions that no one else sees,

Like - you're only sick if your faith is at odds,
And you're riches and wealth come from works for God,
And that the bible holds secrets between the lines,
And if your faith is in question, you're a waste of time."

So he sat at home with his miracle,
Congratulating himself for the feelings he felt,
And how he washed the tears away as he praised the Lord,
    And started his life again.

He believed in higher truths,
That sickness is weakness if your faith is loose,
And that feelings of loss were self awareness,
And that was a sign of un-Godliness.

He fasted, he meditated, he gave up medicine,
He sacrificed emotions and pain,
And as his body started to die inside,
And he wondered what was really up above.

He asked himself, "Do I believe in miracles?"
And am I right with God?
And as the man died, he damned himself,
    For not being strong enough."

    The man believed in miracles
Until the day that he died.
He was mentally weak and confused,
With his last words, he cursed at himself and said:

"All that I learned were lies."
"All that I learned were lies."
"All that I learned were lies."
"All that I learned were lies."
